EXORCISM - Closer to You than You realise
"Did you know Bram Stoker used to spend his annual holidays here ?"
and I said "But I thought he stayed at Cruden Bay ?".
He did but apparently he used this house to base his 'Dracula' castle on it.
Warning
Do not tread any where unless you know exactly where you are treading !
Dracula its a story isn't it ?
There's a legend connected to the Ecclescrieg House.
Story goes the Forsyth-Grant family who owned it had a son who, according to locals, was a bit of a character.
Placed in charge of a whaling ship he had a crew with mixed backgrounds and nationalities, including a group of eskimo's.
Whilst in charge of the ship, he briskly ordered the eskimo's off but not before attaining their curse.
Where upon the ship shortly after went missing in a violent storm, supposedly shipwreked.
Rumours have it that there was supposed to have beeen a violent mutiny and killings on board, but its curious only the eskimo's survived - curse or not ?
The Eskimo's had according to rumour placed the curse only on the ship but insisted it was the son 'Osbert Clare Forsyth-Grant' who sent them a shore, in order for them to perish.
To this day the family crypt has only one missing place as no body was ever found.
It is also said 'Osbert Clare Forsyth-Grant' sustained the wrath of his father for joining the navy and
not the army - where the family had a long distinguished and honoured reputation.
Of course it is still said today that you can hear footsteps along the terraces made by his father,
who is sometimes seen with binoculars looking out to sea searching for his sons ship.
Though in private hands, this House casts a shadow over the nearby village.
Approaching the house you get an eerie feel even in daylight, and the empty crypt ? (hmm Bram Stroker story).
This was no ordinary visit but one where meeting spirit was enlightening.
As the house is now owned by others, the ghostly story has to end here. Suffice to say no one wanted or liked to stay in the house for years.
I understood why and knew to well the Bram Stoker story, which didn't really help as it ran through my mind.
Who knows may be I'll return, but what ever ! I never expected a house to have ghosts with remarkable stories with them.
REMEMBER one thing here, you'll NEVER no why someone like Bram Stroker wrote a book on holiday or where they get the influences from.....and how close to the truth they could be.
**Just a side note:- I've Discovered The Bram Stroker's desk with a history (yes his actual desk), I'll tell you about it later.
